WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney today applauded the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) announcement that it is continuing with the current definition of "rural" until at least March 27, 2013. The announcement means that Connecticut towns remain eligible for Rural Development programs and funding. These funds support essential public facilities and services such as water and sewer systems, housing, health clinics, emergency service facilities and electric and telephone service.

Earlier this week, Lieberman, Blumenthal and Courtney wrote to President Obama in support of the State's request for a declaration, which makes it possible for Congress to appropriate funds toward alleviating the financial hardship to fishermen caused by the fishery disaster.

WASHINGTON, DC – At a hearing of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, Congressman Joe Courtney elicited testimony from Assistant Secretary of the Navy Sean Stackley affirming that the Fiscal Year 2013 Continuing Resolution (CR) being considered by the Congress would in fact continue to fully fund continued doubled submarine production at Electric Boat. The 2013 CR, which is expected to be passed in the House tomorrow, would fund the government for six months through March 2013.
