Resources for Federal Workers
More than 10,000 federal employees call eastern Connecticut home. They play critical roles in maintaining our national security, agriculture, commerce and many other sectors.
Since January 20th, 2025, President Donald Trump, unelected billionaire Elon Musk, and DOGE have taken aggressive and sweeping actions against the nation’s federal workforce. My office is tracking how these changes will impact residents of eastern Connecticut. If you are a federal worker with a concerning experience you’d like to share, I’d like to hear from you.
To share your story and receive updates from my office relating to executive actions taken against the federal workforce, please click here. This information is confidential and will not be shared unless you give your express permission.

Precautionary Steps for Probationary Employees
If you are concerned you may be terminated due to being a probationary employee, you may benefit from retaining copies of your personnel documentation such as your SF-50, SF-8, performance reviews, paystubs, etc.
I have been terminated and do not have copies of my personnel documentation:
As a former federal employee, you generally have the right to request your personnel documentation from your employing agency. If you need assistance contacting your agency, please contact my Norwich Office.
Rights of Employees
Your rights vary depending on factors like your length of service, grade, and service classification. Below are resources of interest to impacted employees:
Unemployment Compensation & Job Search
If you have been recently terminated by the federal government, you may be eligible to file for unemployment compensation through the State of Connecticut Department of Labor. Please click this link from CT Department of Labor for more information.
You will need your SF-50 and SF-8 to file an UI claim. A factsheet relating to the UI process can be found here.
Should you wish for assistance seeking a new job, you can visit this link to read about resources for job seekers.
Health Coverage
If you have recently lost your federal healthcare coverage, you may benefit from contacting Access Health CT, Connecticut’s official health insurance marketplace.
Community Services
Please reference this guidebook to learn about community services available around Eastern Connecticut and the state.
Whistleblower Resources and Protections
Government employees with information related to the politicization of the federal workforce, the firing of civil servants, and/or waste, fraud, or abuse of taxpayer dollar, may reach out anonymously to the Professional Staff of the minority Democrats on the House Oversight Committee.
Employees who ‘blow the whistle’ on federal government actions are afforded rights and protections. The House Office of the Whistleblower Ombudsman maintains guidance as to what protections you are guaranteed. The Whistleblower Ombudsman directs to useful whistleblower resources and does not assist in filing a complaint.
