Congressmen Yarmuth and Courtney wager on Women's National Championship
WASHINGTON — Today, Congressmen John Yarmuth (KY-3) and Joe Courtney (CT-2) announced a friendly wager on Tuesday's NCAA Women's National Championship matchup between the University of Louisville Cardinals and the University of Connecticut Huskies.
Each Member is wagering wares native to his District.
If the Cardinals win, Congressman Yarmuth will provide a bottle of Woodford Reserve bourbon and a bucket of KFC. If the Huskies prevail, Congressman Courtney will give his colleague a case of Cottrell beer and a Mystic Pizza.
“The Cards showed the true depth of their talent and resolve in Sunday night’s win,” Congressman Yarmuth said. “With one National Championship under our belt this week and all the momentum behind us, the Cards won’t just crash the party – we’ll bring it.”
“By reaching the championship games in both the men’s and women’s tournaments, Louisville has done something rarely accomplished by teams not called UConn,” said Congressman Courtney. “Unfortunately for Congressman Yarmuth, the Cardinals will not do what the Huskies did in 2004, when they won both titles in the same year. Although Coach Pitino’s squad won last night, I wouldn’t consider betting against Coach Auriemma’s Huskies as they go for the eighth national championship in team history.”
With the stage set for the Cardinals or the Huskies to make history, Congressmen Yarmuth and Courtney also want to congratulate both teams, their coaches, and their fans on reaching college basketball's highest level.
