Courtney's office helped residents receive funds and benefits owed to them by resolving IRS disputes, VA benefit issues, mortgage problems, complications with Social Security benefits, and other issues.

The Navy is currently investigating allegations that a male sailor videotaped women officers in a shower area of the ship.

WASHINGTON—As Congress prepares to move forward with a legislative package of “tax extenders” for 2014, Congressman Joe Courtney highlighted the need to renew a provision that protects struggling homeowners from severe tax penalties after a short sale, mortgage restructuring or foreclosure. Without renewal of the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act, distressed homeowners will incur income taxes on mortgage debt forgiven in such a transaction—an expensive proposition for families already facing financial distress.
Norwich, CT—Yesterday, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) met with Darrell Stark, age 92, of Stafford Springs to learn about Mr. Stark’s recent trip to Japan. Mr. Stark and six other former prisoners of war of Japan during World War II made the journey as guests of the Japanese government to revisit and reconcile with their past. Their trip was part of an ongoing reconciliation process that began in 2010 when the Japanese government delivered to the first American POW delegation an official Cabinet-approved apology for the damage and suffering these men endured.
