NORWICH, CT—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) and Bryan Hurlburt, State Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency, visited Bahler Farms in Ellington to highlight the high enrollment rate in the new Dairy Margin Protection Program among dairy farms in Connecticut.
“The new Dairy Margin Protection Program—which I supported during the crafting of the 2014 Farm Bill—provides flexible insurance coverage for our region’s dairy farms when prices dip,” Courtney said.

Washington, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) was officially named the Ranking Member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee for the 114th Congress today. The panel—on which he has served since entering Congress in 2007—oversees a broad range of programs including shipbuilding, airlift, deep strike bombers, seaborne unmanned systems, and national security aspects of our domestic maritime programs.

As this important anniversary approaches, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2), who originally noted the movie’s erroneous depiction of Connecticut congressmen voting against the abolition of slavery, released a resource guide to help set the record straight for Connecticut students and viewers.

WASHINGTON—Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) and Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4), along with 30 bipartisan House colleagues, sent a letter this week to Senate leadership urging opposition to an amendment that would strip domestic construction requirements that help strengthen America’s shipbuilding industry. In addition to building and maintaining approximately 40,000 commercial vessels, private shipbuilders provide critical maintenance services and capacity for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard fleets—capacity that would be threatened if build requirements under the Jones Act are undone.

Norwich, CT—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor announced a $1.2 million grant to Connecticut’s “Shared Work Program” to help keep employees on the job during downturns in their company’s business.
“Helping employers retain valuable workers during a downturn in business is the best way to keep those employees connected to a job, rather than face the total loss of a layoff,” Congressman Courtney said. “I applaud Secretary Perez for awarding these funds, which will bolster our fragile recovery.
