Courtney Statement on the Announcement of Sikorsky Aircraft Purchase
WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) released the following statement after UTC announced that Lockheed Martin Corp. plans to purchase Sikorsky Aircraft of Stratford, Connecticut for $9 billion:
“Today’s announcement that Lockheed Martin will purchase Sikorsky Aircraft builds on longstanding ties between the two companies and our state. These two companies have worked closely over the years to develop and produce some of the most advanced helicopters in the world, and at this early stage I believe that Sikorsky is a good fit for Lockheed’s commercial and military helicopter work.
“There are many more details to review as this deal is finalized and approved over the next several months, and I am eager to learn more about Lockheed’s vision for the future of Sikorsky’s operations, workforce, and network of suppliers in Connecticut. In the meantime, as a member of the House Armed Services Committee I look forward to working with Lockheed and Sikorsky leadership to facilitate a smooth transition and ensure that Connecticut workers will continue to build the advanced helicopters our servicemembers need.”
