WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, issued the following statement after House passage of the FY26 National Defense Authorization Act.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, voted to advance the bipartisan FY26 National Defense Authorization Act out of the House Armed Services Committee (55-2). After a chaotic 2026 defense budget process left a shortfall for the Virginia-class submarine program, the committee-passed bill includes the Courtney amendment which boosted the Virginia program by $1 billion to close the funding gap and ensure a 2-per-year build rate.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, during the House Armed Services Committee’s markup of the Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) National Defense Authorization Act, the committee unanimously adopted the Courtney amendment, which he offered as Ranking Member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, to authorize $1 billion in additional funding for the Virgina-class submarine program.
