WASHINGTON, DC — This evening, U.S. Representatives Chris Murphy, Rosa DeLauro, John Larson, Joe Courtney, and Jim Himes will introduce a resolution in the House of Representatives condemning Friday's horrific attack at Sandy Hook Elementary School, memorializing the 26 victims, and expressing support and prayers for the victims' families, the faculty and staff, the heroic first responders who rushed to the scene to prevent further loss of life, and the entire Newtown community.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney today announced that, since the beginning of 2011, his office has helped return $2,663,528 to eastern Connecticut citizens who were owed Social Security checks, veterans' benefits, tax refunds and other payments from the federal government. Since Courtney's arrival in Congress in 2007, his casework staff has helped thousands of constituents cut through bureaucratic red tape and work with government agencies.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney today urged eastern Connecticut's recent college graduates with federal student loans to apply for the U.S. Department of Education's new "Pay as You Earn" Program to reduce their monthly loan payments. The "Pay as You Earn" program will allow eligible student-loan borrowers to cap monthly payments to 10 percent of discretionary income, and have their loans forgiven after 20 years.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney today testified before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works about the impact of Hurricane Sandy on eastern Connecticut. Courtney stressed the economic impact of repeated storms that have hit the region over the past two years. He testified, in part:

"[Eastern Connecticut towns] have experienced just a historic repetition of bad weather that is really now starting to hit bone and muscle in terms of their ability to provide basic functions for local government."

The Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP), created by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998, reimburses police departments for 50 percent of the cost of vets that have been purchased.
