Courtney & Finizio announce $714,846 Community Development Block Grant for City of New London

July 8, 2013

NORWICH, CT – Congressman Joe Courtney and Mayor Daryl Finizio today announced that the City of New London has secured $714,846 as part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG). The program provides annual grants to state and local governments to develop their urban communities. CDBG funding has been available since 1974, and is used to develop affordable housing and anti-poverty programs.

"For almost 40 years, CDBG funding has been making a difference in Connecticut communities," said Congressman Courtney. "CDBG expands job training, improves our infrastructure and rehabilitates housing units in places that need help the most. New London has been hit hard in recent years, but this type of targeted investment ensures that people and communities that need help the most get it."

"I want to applaud Representative Courtney for his diligent work in ensuring these funds are available for the City of New London," said Mayor Finizio. "These funds are vital to urban communities and the City appreciates Representative Courtney's efforts to grow our allocation."
