“Eastern Connecticut is home to lots of military families with school-aged children, and their schools were at risk of losing this federal support at the worst possible time due to COVID-19,” said Congressman Courtney.

“Over the last ten years, sworn testimony before the Congress from combatant commanders, outside defense experts and Navy leadership has been unanimous—the Navy needs more submarines,” Chairman Courtney said.

“Congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden on running a campaign that overwhelmingly reflected the values of the hard-working people here in eastern Connecticut—one that was focused on the issues, and on bringing the American people together from both sides of the aisle to tackle the biggest challenges facing us today," Courtney said.

“Our communities have shown a lot of toughness in battling COVID-19, but what our partners today realize more than anyone else is that eastern Connecticut is really facing a collision of epidemics,” said Congressman Courtney.

“Approval of Connecticut’s spending plan means that two streams of federal COVID financial assistance are officially on the table for an industry that has been excluded for months now,” Congressman Joe Courtney said.

“I’ve stopped by several of our local school meal distribution sites in eastern Connecticut, and I’ve seen firsthand how much our communities have relied on the new flexibility Congress authorized for our Summer Meal Programs,” said Congressman Courtney.
