“Approval of Connecticut’s spending plan means that two streams of federal COVID financial assistance are officially on the table for an industry that has been excluded for months now,” Congressman Joe Courtney said.

“I’ve stopped by several of our local school meal distribution sites in eastern Connecticut, and I’ve seen firsthand how much our communities have relied on the new flexibility Congress authorized for our Summer Meal Programs,” said Congressman Courtney.

“The bipartisan budget we passed last month gave states like Connecticut more time to revise and approve their industrial hemp production pilot programs, and today’s bill signing means that we’re moving ahead on schedule,” said Rep. Courtney.

“There are thousands of people in eastern Connecticut who don’t typically file a tax return, and some of them still haven’t received the direct payments that Congress authorized through the bipartisan CARES Act,” said Congressman Courtney.

“If Secretary Esper is serious about boosting production, he could direct his department to support the House-passed authorization and funding levels for a second Virginia-class submarine in 2021 that reverses the Administration’s anemic shipbuilding budget in the House-Senate conference process happening right now,” Courtney added.

“Restoring construction of the second Virginia-class submarine in FY2021 isn’t just important to our shipbuilders and manufacturers here in eastern Connecticut, it’s also the Navy’s number-one unfunded priority at a time when our undersea fleet is more heavily relied upon than ever,” said Congressman Courtney.

“This bill is enormously important to Groton; the Town depends on the Impact Aid Grant to support the education of over 1,000 military dependents,” said Groton Public Schools Superintendent Michael Graner, Ph.D.

“Connecticut is one of the Heritage Fishing Areas,” stated Rep. Courtney in his opening remarks.
