WASHINGTON, DC – Senators Joe Lieberman and Richard Blumenthal and Congressman Joe Courtney today announced that Groton-based Electric Boat (EB) has secured a $25.2 million in contracts from the U.S. Navy to perform maintenance on the USS Annapolis (SSN 760) in Groton ($15.4 million) and to support nuclear submarine and carrier repair work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard ($9.8 million) in Washington State.

Congressmen to discuss legislation to prevent July 1 rate hike

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressmen Joe Courtney and Chris Murphy on Tuesday, April 3, at 10:00 a.m. will join advocates from US PIRG and college administrators in support of Congressman Courtney's legislation to prevent interest rates on certain student loans from doubling on July 1 – 88 days from April 3.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney today encouraged eastern Connecticut's aspiring young artists to participate in the 2012 Congressional Art Competition. The competition is open to high school students only, grades 9 through 12, and the winner will be selected at the District Art Show and Competition on Friday May 4. The winner of that competition will have his or her work featured in the United States Capitol along with art from all 435 Congressional Districts.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney on FRIDAY, March 30, from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. will participate in the Mansfield Job Fair, which he coordinated with the Eastern Workforce Investment Board (EWIB), CT Works, the Chronicle Newspaper, Quinebaug Valley Community College, the Northeastern Chamber of Commerce and the Windham Chamber of Commerce. Rep. Courtney's office will have a booth at the fair.

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Richard Blumenthal and Congressman Joe Courtney today applauded more than $2 million in grant awards from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to combat lead paint and other home health hazards in Norwich. In all, the City of Norwich was awarded $ 1,927,857 in Lead Based Paint Hazard Control grant program funding and $180,000 in healthy homes supplemental funding for the identification and reduction of home health hazards in 95 housing units.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney today applauded Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Readiness and Management Support subcommittee, after she rejected the Defense Departments proposal for a new Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) round. McCaskill said Wednesday that she will not let new rounds of base closures pass her subcommittee this year, dealing what The Hill called "a potentially fatal blow" to the Pentagon's plans for BRAC in 2013.

WASHINGTON, DC– Congressman Joe Courtney and Senators Joseph Lieberman and Richard Blumenthal announced the awarding of two USDA Rural Development grants to the town of Sprague.

Sprague will receive a grant of $28,700 from the Community Facilities Program to update and repair critical facilities at the Town Hall. These essential repairs will aid in meeting full ADA accessibility requirements.
