“Moments ago, I called on Sec. Betsy DeVos to account for misleading comments she made about East Hartford High School a year ago and her refusal to respond to Connecticut officials and students who politely challenged her facts. During her 2017 testimony before the House Appropriations Committee, Sec. DeVos stated that she had heard from a former student, who attended the school 17 years ago, that East Hartford High is ‘nothing more than adult daycare … a dangerous daycare.’"

“With the bipartisan vote in the Senate yesterday to restore net neutrality, now is the time for Republicans and Democrats in the House to come together to force a vote on this issue and that’s why I signed the petition from the floor today,” said Courtney.

“Without the federal funding provided by CDBG program, our local municipalities would struggle to fund valuable public services and housing assistance programs that are often taken for granted,” said Courtney. “CDBG has become a critical vehicle for getting federal dollars into the hands of local governments who need this annual cash infusion to maintain these services and programs. Proposals to eliminate CDBG would have a devastating impact on our region and our state, which is why I will continue to work across the aisle to preserve this vital program as Congress debates the 2019 budget in the weeks ahead.”

Each year, as May ends and we prepare to welcome another summer season, our nation takes a moment to pause and remember the fallen men and women who gave their lives while defending our freedom. Memorial Day serves as a solemn reminder to the American people of the sacrifice made by the members of our Armed Forces and their families.
In Southeastern Connecticut, Memorial Day carries a special meaning since it is home to Naval Submarine Base New London, the oldest submarine base in the country. Sailors from the base have served in every major conflict dating from the first World War to the present time. Our submarine force played a particularly significant role in our nation’s victory during World War II.

“We believe that the APC-APM proposal is consistent with the Administration’s goals of preserving independent medical practices, lowering the cost of health care, and reducing the administrative burden for physicians and other health care providers,” wrote the members. “If fully implemented, the APC-APM would allow more than 200,000 primary care physicians to engage in a payment model that promotes the value of primary care through comprehensive and continuous patient-centered primary care.”

“While Congressman Larson and I originally announced that the IRS was going to make this tax relief available late last year, many people are still just learning about the program and the fact that it will be available until 2021,” said Courtney. “Local residents should be aware that the additional three years afforded under this updated guidance we received in February will provide critical time for to make foundation repairs and secure federal tax relief. I would like to thank the Office of the Connecticut Taxpayer Advocate and Congressman John Larson for their participation today.

“Cases of Lyme Disease are especially prevalent in eastern Connecticut, affecting thousands of residents. In fact, the namesake town of Lyme, Connecticut is part of the Second Congressional District that I represent,” Courtney said. “May is National Lyme Disease Awareness Month and I hope this resolution will contribute to the growing public discussion about the treatment and prevention of this disease. As other regions of the country are also experiencing a surge in Lyme Disease cases, I hope this will spur a national effort to raise awareness and provide additional resources to combat this disease, as well as other tickborne illnesses.”

“It is long past time for the federal government to live up to the commitments to relieve our communities of the burdens associated with storing nuclear waste locally. This bipartisan compromise broke through the gridlock in Washington and may finally provide a way out for these communities,” Courtney said.

“Each year, I have the privilege of working with representatives from across the country and across the aisle to put together this important legislation that invests in our national defense,” said Courtney. “This bill continues my work to respond to the testimony of our military commanders that the U.S. must continue to grow our submarine force."

"I am pleased to join you to offer the subcommittee mark for the Seapower and Projection Forces portion of the Fiscal Year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act. Once again, the proposal before us reflects thoughtful bipartisan work and cooperation that our subcommittee has year in, and year out, produced and has truly made a difference in seapower policy."
