The Seapower and Projection Forces subcommittee meets this morning to hear testimony on the Department of the Air Force’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 budget request.

"I welcome President Biden's nomination of Carlos Del Toro as the next Secretary of the Navy,” said Congressman Courtney.

“Improving America’s aging roads, bridges and public transit is an overwhelmingly popular idea across the country, but people in eastern Connecticut don’t have to look far to see signs that our most important infrastructure needs revitalization,” said Rep. Courtney.

“Our local towns employ thousands of essential public workers, and that’s who this funding is going to support—our police stations, fire houses, transportation hubs and more, so that we can keep people employed, keep services up and running, and keep our recovery going,” said Congressman Courtney.

“America is going to lean heavily on the work of our U.S. Navy as our national security priorities pivot towards the Indo-Pacific and the Arctic, which will require a higher rate of submarine deployments at a time where public shipyards are facing huge backlogs, requiring private yards to fill the breach,” said Chairman Courtney.

“As you work to develop the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, we write to request your full support of the President’s budget request of $17.5 million in Army National Guard Military Construction funds for a new Connecticut Army National Guard (CTARNG) Readiness Center in the town of Putnam, Connecticut,” wrote Congressman Courtney.

“There are a lot of workers and families out there that are just starting to turn the corner in this recovery, and we can’t let folks go back to the same sort of debt crises in-waiting that existed prior to COVID-19,” said Rep. Courtney.

“President Biden’s budget submission is the start of an intense process to achieve the right balance of our national defense. It is noteworthy at the outset that the nearly $12 billion request for submarine construction and development is the largest investment in our undersea fleet since the 1980s,” said Courtney.
