WASHINGTON, DC – All seven members of Connecticut's congressional delegation Thursday urged President Obama to visit the state and observe first-hand the devastation caused by Hurricane Irene.
In a letter to the President, the delegation cited major flooding caused by five Connecticut rivers, coastal surge, and wave damage to support the case for an emergency declaration for the state.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney today urged Vietnam-era veterans who have medical diagnoses for three presumptive conditions related to Agent Orange exposure to file their disability claims with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) by August 30 to quality for up to one year of retroactive benefits. The three diseases recently added to the VA's list of presumptive conditions related to Agent Orange are ischemic heart disease, hairy cell and other B-cell leukemias and Parkinson's disease.
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney today announced that three small farms and businesses in Hebron, Stonington, and Canterbury have secured grants totaling $51,449 through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).
REAP allows small farms and rural businesses to invest in the development and implementation of renewable energy systems so that they can save on the often volatile and rising cost of energy each year.

WASHINGTON, DC– Congressman Joe Courtney today released the following statement after the Department of Labor cited positive private-sector job growth in July. The new report says the economy added 154,000 new private-sector jobs, reducing the overall unemployment rate to 9.1 percent. Additionally, the report revised jobs numbers from May and June to reflect an additional 56,000 new jobs.
WASHINGTON, DC– Congressman Joe Courtney today announced that the town of Plainfield and the Eastern Connecticut Resource Conservation and Development Area have secured grants worth $46,450 and $75,000, respectively. The grants come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Rural Development program, which is designed to promote economic stability for communities, businesses, and farmers in rural areas.
WASHINGTON, DC– Congressman Joe Courtney today announced that, after conferring with Navy officials, a new agreement will generate $16.6 million in additional maintenance and repair work for Electric Boat (EB) at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Va. The additional work protects the jobs of many EB workers who were given layoff notices earlier this year.
