Courtney and the full Connecticut Delegation sent a letter urging Hartford Healthcare CEO Elliot Joseph and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Connecticut President and General Manager Jill Hummel to reach an agreement and resolve the contract dispute as soon as possible. The dispute has threatened access to affordable health care services for roughly 60,000 Connecticut residents.

President Trump’s decision to withhold certification of the JCPOA directly contradicts the opinion of our nation's highest military leadership. General Joseph Dunford clearly stated last month that implementation of the agreement has slowed Iran’s nuclear program and that withdrawal would undermine our ability to broker future diplomatic solutions. His view was echoed by Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis last week when he affirmed before Congress that this agreement remains in the national security interests of the United States.

Courtney and Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA-5) introduced the Fire Police Fairness Act, bipartisan legislation that would extend public safety officer death benefits to fire police. Fire police officers provide unique and varying emergency response services in several states, including Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Because there is no uniform national designation for fire police, many of these public servants face additional hurdles in accessing benefits that other public safety officers receive.
