WASHINGTON– Congressmen Joe Courtney (CT-2) announced today the House approved his legislation to combat Lyme Disease and other tick-borne illnesses, adopted as part of the 21st Century Cures Act (H.R. 6), a broader bill to strengthen medical research and innovation which passed today by a vote of 344 to 77.

WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney spoke on the floor of the House to advocate for an amendment he offered to the Elementary and Secondary Education Reauthorization bill currently being debated, the Student Success Act. Courtney’s amendment would have improved access and availability for STEM education resources, encouraging students from all backgrounds to pursue higher education and careers in STEM.

GROTON—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney attended the unveiling of the NR-1 at the Submarine Force Library and Museum in Groton. The exhibit commemorates the deep submergence research vehicle NR-1, which was personally championed by Admiral Hyman Rickover, built by Electric Boat, entered service in 1969 and was stationed at Submarine Base New London. Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Jonathan Greenert joined in the unveiling ceremony.

"I want to thank Reverend Hyslop for uniting our southeastern Connecticut community tonight in the wake of the horrific events that claimed the lives of nine parishioners of Charleston’s AME Emanuel Church. I am sorry that I am out of the state today and cannot join you in person for this important gathering. The pain of this cowardly attack echoes from South Carolina all across our country, and we join them in mourning for the loss of their beloved family members, friends, and neighbors.
