The cost of health care is the biggest single drain on Americans' budgets. If Congress does not act, health care premiums will skyrocket for millions of Americans nationwide due to the expiration of longstanding Affordable Care Act tax credits. I am working to prevent this through a bipartisan compromise in Congress.

I know that due to increasing costs, people will be forced to make difficult decisions about health care for themselves and their families.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) requested that the U.S. House of Representatives’ Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) withhold his salary for the duration of the government shutdown, which began at 12:01am ET on October 1st, 2025. Courtney has withheld his pay during every government shutdown since he was elected to serve as a Member of Congress.
