“I am strongly opposed to the President’s misguided and unlawful plan to misuse emergency powers to pilfer military construction funds to pay for a border wall,” said Congressman Courtney. “It’s a misuse of executive authority, and a dangerous precedent to set. Even the Ranking Republican of the House Armed Services Committee and other senior Armed Services Republicans have said they oppose the President using precious military construction funds this way.

“Today’s announcement by the U.S. Department of Labor certifying Trade Adjustment Assistance eligibility for laid-off employees from Crabtree & Evelyn is welcome news,” said Congressman Courtney. “This is an example of this federal law working exactly the way it was intended to, and of a company doing all it can to help its employees restore stability to their lives following an economic downturn."

“Today’s passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act is a win for hardworking federal employees, for the Coast Guard, law enforcement officials, the environment, and more,” said Congressman Courtney. “I’m particularly pleased that today’s funding package restored the 1.9% pay increase to federal employees that President Trump tried to eliminate on December 28, and that it took another step towards helping folks in eastern Connecticut who are affected by the crumbling foundation's crisis."

“Today’s announcement by the U.S. Department of Labor certifying laid-off Garbo Lobster employees for Trade Adjustment Assistance is a great victory for the men and women who were impacted the mass layoff on January 17,” said Congressman Courtney. “It is particularly impressive because it was the workers, not the employer, who initiated this certification from the Department of Labor, which is extremely unusual."
