“I’ve heard loud and clear from people across eastern Connecticut,” said Congressman Courtney, “from patient advocacy groups, to healthcare professionals, to individuals who rely on the Affordable Care Act for coverage – and they do not want to turn the clock back on access to healthcare for folks with pre-existing conditions. Families from every corner of the District oppose this lawsuit that would put them back in the world of medical bankruptcy. Today’s resolution, which I voted in favor of, affirms the House Counsel’s authority to step in where the Trump Administration has failed to defend the law against this existential threat. Congress has a responsibility uphold the law, and to stand up for Americans and their health care – and I am proud to do so today.”

“The number one thing I hear around the district from both medical professionals and first responders is that they need more funding if we are ever going to stem the rise in drug addiction,” said Courtney. “For years, we have been saying that we need to start treating this crisis like a medical emergency as well as a law enforcement issue. This funding does just that by providing funding for hospitals and clinics on the frontlines.”

“I am honored to be recognized as one of the inaugural recipients of this award presented by the American Academy of Family Physicians,” said Courtney. “Primary care and family medicine are the front lines of medical care in this country. The goal of the Primary Care Caucus is to improve outcomes for children and families through the triple aim of increased access, improved quality, and decreased cost."

“We believe that the APC-APM proposal is consistent with the Administration’s goals of preserving independent medical practices, lowering the cost of health care, and reducing the administrative burden for physicians and other health care providers,” wrote the members. “If fully implemented, the APC-APM would allow more than 200,000 primary care physicians to engage in a payment model that promotes the value of primary care through comprehensive and continuous patient-centered primary care.”

The members wrote: “You have stated that the objective of this regulation is to ‘expand employer and employee access to more affordable, high-quality coverage,’ a goal we share. However, we are concerned that the impact analysis fails to explain sufficiently how the Department expects this proposed rule to achieve the desired outcome. For that reason, we respectfully request specific additional information on how the Department has determined this proposed rule’s potential impacts on coverage quality and cost – from the perspective of employers and employees.”
