Statement From Congressman Courtney On The Murder Of Dallas Police Officers

July 8, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) made the following statement following the mass-shooting of police officers in Dallas, Texas last night:

“There are no words which can adequately convey what a horrific and heartbreaking day this is for the United States of America. As the reporting from Dallas this morning has made clear, what occurred last night was an execution-style attack on Dallas police officers who were engaged in protecting freedom of speech and ensuring public safety – the highest form of public service.

“As Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson from Dallas powerfully stated on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, all Americans, all of us must come together to stop the escalation of senseless violence that is killing and injuring innocents of every type – sworn, uniformed police officers, and civilians who are peacefully going about their lawful business. The need to unite is not a wishful dream, but rather a grim necessity if we are to stop the havoc that threatens us all. “
