Rep. Joe Courtney Marks the Start of the New Congress
“We are really focused on the issues that matter most to the people: the economy, bringing down the cost of living, helping people connect to job opportunities.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Joe Courtney (CT-02) marked the start of the 119th Congress and his tenth term serving Connecticut’s Second Congressional District.
“I am determined to continue the work we’ve done together to get real results for our region,” said Courtney. “It’s going to be a divided House, but as I’ve always done, going back to my days in the Connecticut legislature, [I am] always looking for opportunities to reach to the other side to find areas of consensus and common interest to move agendas forward... We are really focused on the issues that matter most to people which are the economy, bringing down the cost of living, and helping people connect to job opportunities.”
The House is convening at 12 p.m. today to begin the 119th Congress. The first order of business is the selection of a Speaker of the House. If all 434 Members of the House cast a vote, a candidate must receive 218 votes to win. Until then, no legislative or committee business can occur.
