Rep. Courtney on White House Meeting with President Zelenskyy

NORWICH, CT – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement following President Trump’s meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. 

“President Trump’s out of control outburst in the Oval Office today was an insult to the people of Ukraine who have sacrificed so much blood and treasure defending their freedom and homeland. For an American President to rationalize ex-KGB Putin’s vicious, lawless actions is a disgrace.

“I, for one, still believe there is strong bipartisan support in the country and the Congress to support the sovereignty of the Ukrainian people with strong, enforceable security guarantees, which must be part of any proposed deal with Russia. Putin’s history of violating “deals” and international rule of law requires that at the very least. President Trump needs to work with our allies and President Zelenskyy to achieve that goal, not engage in public temper tantrums.”
