Rep. Courtney Statement on Senate GOP Coronavirus Bill

March 20, 2020
Press Release

NORWICH, CT – Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) released the following statement today after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell released Senate Republicans’ latest coronavirus legislation:

“After speaking with thousands of eastern Connecticut residents via two remote distance town halls this week, there is no doubt that Senator McConnell’s proposed COVID-19 aid package totally misses the mark in terms of supporting working families, small businesses, and frontline health care workers who are dealing with the fallout of this health emergency in real time,” said Congressman Courtney. “This was a rushed, closed-door process, and the result is a bill that greatly favors large businesses and corporate executives at the expense of hard-pressed, middle class and lower-income families. The bill won’t get help where it's needed the most, and Americans deserve much better. Swift action is needed, and now it is a time for a more open and inclusive process to fix this flawed measure.”
