Rep. Courtney Statement on President Biden’s Extension of Pause on Payment Collections for Federal Student Loans
NORWICH, CT—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), a senior Member of the House Education and Labor Committee, released the following statement after the Biden Administration announced an extension in the pause of student loan repayment, collections, and interest accrual to May 1, 2022.
"This is the right move by the Biden Administration for working families and recent graduates who are still caught in the economic instability caused by COVID," said Rep. Courtney. "It's clear we're in a much better place than we were a year ago, but with a new surge in COVID-19 infections, its disruptive impact continues to linger. This is not the right moment for monthly loan payments to snap back for millions of borrowers. In the meantime, I will continue my work on the Education Committee to restructure loan debt to provide longer-term solutions to the larger issue of student loan debt."
