Rep. Courtney Secures $11M for Local Projects in 2024 Government Funding Package

March 6, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Joe Courtney voted to pass the bipartisan Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, a package of six domestic funding bills. The legislation includes $11,854,781 in Community Project Funding Rep. Courtney requested to support 15 local projects across eastern Connecticut.

“Today, I joined a bipartisan coalition to pass the first government funding package that sets spending levels for fiscal year 2024 and ends the cycle of continuing resolutions for many of our federal agencies for the rest of the fiscal year. This gives these agencies the stability and funding they need to carry out their important work to lower the cost of living, create and sustain good-paying jobs, and help people in need,” said Rep. Joe Courtney. “For eastern Connecticut, the legislation will deliver over $11 million in Community Project Funding I requested to support initiatives across our region. From housing development to public safety, this major investment will help meet the needs of our communities from the shoreline to the quiet corner.”

“Notably, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, rejects poison pill amendments that were included in the original House passed Military Construction & Veterans Affairs appropriations bill and reverses House Republicans’ efforts to cut the military construction account by more than $1.5 billion and the Department of Veterans Affairs by $17 billion compared to FY 2023. Today’s bill secured funding $2 billion above the President’s budget request for military construction and includes significant funding I requested to execute two projects at Naval Submarine Base New London.”

Community Project Funding initiatives include:

  • $500,000 for ADA Improvements to the Town of Stafford Warren Memorial Town Hall
  • $1,000,000 for Day Kimball Healthcare Purchase of Fixed MRI System
  • $1,666,279 for Eastern Connecticut Affordable Housing Rescue Plan-Affordable Housing Acquisition, Development and Construction
  • $1,000,000 for Enfield Station Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Public Streetscape Improvement Project
  • $800,000 for Lieutenant River Habitat and Riparian Zone Protection and Restoration
  • $1,000,000 for Mansfield Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Project
  • $500,000 for Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Water Treatment Plant Forcemain Replacement
  • $743,000 for New London Police Department Digital Infrastructure Improvements
  • $1,000,000 for Noank Fire Districts Water Infrastructure Expansion Project
  • $279,000 for Town of Preston Public Works Improvements and Upgrades
  • $1,000,000 for South Coventry Water Tower
  • $1,000,000 for Town of Essex River Road Bridge and Sidewalk project
  • $140,250 for Town of Lisbon Fire Department Decontamination Equipment
  • $959,752 for Town of Suffield for Stony Brook Interceptor Rehabilitation Project
  • $266,500 for United Way of Southeastern Connecticut Food System Upgrades

The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, includes funding that supports more than a dozen federal departments, including the Departments of Agriculture, Energy, Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development, and Transportation.
