Rep. Courtney Presents Local Manufacturers with Export Achievement Awards on National Manufacturing Day
ESSEX, CT – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) joined Anne Evans, Director of the U.S. Department of Commerce International Trade Administration, at a National Manufacturing Day event to celebrate the Town of Essex as a “manufacturing friendly city,” and to recognize two local manufacturing firms who have excelled in the global export market, and who are selling our locally made Connecticut products to the world.
At the event – which highlighted the importance of manufacturing throughout all eastern Connecticut, especially in smaller towns such as Essex – Congressman Courtney presented awards to two eastern Connecticut manufacturers in recognition of their success in the global export market. The first award was presented to RapidPurge, a small business located in Essex that manufactures thermoplastic purging compounds. The second award was presented to Tower Laboratories Inc., a firm located in Centerbrook that manufactures effervescent products used in products such as denture cleansers, antacids, dietary supplements, and more.
“Manufacturing is the powerhouse of eastern Connecticut’s economy,” said Congressman Courtney. “On the heels of a new House-passed NDAA, groundbreaking on a massive new production facility on our coastline, and an independent evaluation last week that found that the Eastern Connecticut Manufacturing Pipeline is rapidly outpacing its performance goals, there’s been no shortage of good news for our region when it comes to manufacturing. But even all that good news doesn’t tell the entire story – Connecticut has small manufacturing firms in Essex and in small towns throughout our entire state who make huge contributions to our manufacturing portfolio, and who are major players in the international export market. I was proud today to help honor two such firms, RapidPurge and Tower Labs, who are doing remarkable work in bringing our locally made products to the global marketplace while offering great careers to folks here at home.”
“These Essex companies are not unlike the other hundreds of companies that are growing their businesses and creating good jobs in Connecticut,” said Director Anne Evans. “We are honoring them today as an example of USA manufacturing providing products globally.”
