Rep. Courtney Joins President Biden at Philly Shipyard to Tout Investments in Workers, Manufacturing, and Shipbuilding
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, issued the following statement after his visit to Philly Shipyard with President Biden. Watch the event here.
“The Philly Shipyard represents how President Biden’s and Congressional Democrat’s investments in workers, manufacturing, and shipbuilding has paid dividends in communities across the nation. Just a few short years ago, as the President said, the Philly shipyard had only a small number of employees and a nearly empty shipyard. Now, thanks to Congressional action, the shipyard is a booming economic hub for domestic shipbuilding that not only contributes to our nation’s seapower, but our ongoing efforts to transition to clean energy.
“Today’s visit comes after the Philly Shipyard recently christened the EMIPRE STATE VII—the first of five National Security Multi-Mission Vessels authorized by the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee. That christening, and President Biden’s visit today, are powerful statements about the impact of a strong domestic shipbuilding policy and the potential for our nations hard working shipbuilders to rise to the challenges we face today.”
