Rep. Courtney Celebrates New London Educator Named Connecticut’s Teacher of the Year

October 24, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) issued the following statement after Governor Lamont and Commissioner Russell-Tucker announced Kiana Foster-Mauro, a fourth-grade teacher at Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School, as the 2024 Connecticut Teacher of the Year – the state’s highest recognition honoring extraordinary teachers.

“Congratulations to New London’s own Kiana Foster-Mauro for her well-earned distinction as Connecticut’s Teacher of the Year. This high-honor reflects Ms. Foster-Mauro’s commitment to creating a sense of belonging for her students and ensuring every student can succeed. It also is a testament to the City of New London school system which retooled its magnet schools so successfully,” said Rep. Joe Courtney. “Connecticut has a track-record of excellent educators and school districts across the state which make CT a great place to call home. It’s great to see Ms. Foster-Mauro and Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School continue that tradition of excellence.”
