Rep. Courtney Blasts GOP Budget Bill Ahead of Key Vote
“Are you going to listen to the caring profession or to that top 1%.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, after the GOP released key details of its budget bill, Rep. Joe Courtney (CT-02) spoke on the House floor to highlight the widespread opposition to Speaker Johnson’s proposed Medicaid cuts—from hospitals, health care leaders, and the 72 million Americans who rely on Medicaid.
Late tonight, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce is set to advance its portion of the GOP budget reconciliation bill which – according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office – will requiremajor cuts to Medicaid to achieve $880 billion in spending cuts, all while ballooning the deficit to pay for tax cuts for the top 1%.
“Where are your priorities? Are you going to listen to the caring profession – the people who are the nurses and the people that take care of us in times of crisis? Or are we going to listen to that top 1% who are clamoring to make sure that their tax cuts go through…. Reject these Medicaid cuts,” said Courtney.
