Rep. Courtney Announces $3.9 Million Federal Grant for Cross Sound Ferry

November 13, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Joe Courtney announced a $3.9 million federal grant from the Maritime Administration to make significant infrastructure improvements to the Cross Sound Ferry Terminal in New London, Connecticut.

The project involves the construction of a new bulkhead, relocation and installation of new mooring dolphins, construction and installation of two new ferry ramps, a slip, as well as a floating loading platform, and re-sheeting of a section of the existing bulkhead.

“The Maritime Administration’s $3.9 million investment is a powerful vote of confidence in the hard work and important service Cross Sound Ferry performs every day in southeastern Connecticut. My office was pleased to work closely with the great team at Cross Sound Ferry to secure this grant, which is distributed nationwide and on a very competitive basis. The new funding will allow Cross Sound Ferry to make much needed improvements that will directly contribute to New London’s ongoing work to improve shoreline infrastructure. Kudos to Cross Sound Ferry owners John and Adam Wronowski on receiving this well-deserved funding,” Rep. Courtney said.

“We are extremely thankful to be awarded this Port Infrastructure Development Grant and for the efforts of Congressman Courtney and his staff,” said John P. Wronowski, president of Cross Sound Ferry Services, Inc. “As demand for the ferry services continues to grow along with the need for increased efficiency in our operations, the grant award will be applied towards improvements around our ferry slips and docking areas. These improvements are instrumental in the future development of the ferry services in New London to serve regional transportation needs.”

“Cross Sound Ferry is such an important part of our city and interstate commerce. This new federal funding will enhance our multimodal transportation center and go a long way in improving New London’s maritime infrastructure which is the backbone of our City’s economy,” New London Mayor Michael Passero said.
