Rep. Courtney and House Vote to Provide Additional Support to Ukraine in Bipartisan Bill

May 11, 2022

Washington, DC – Last night, by a margin of 368-57, the House voted to pass H.R. 7691, a bipartisan supplemental bill to provide more than $40 billion in emergency funding to support the Ukrainian people in defense of their sovereignty and democracy in the wake of Russia's unprovoked attack on Ukraine.

"The bravery and determination of the Ukrainian people has staved off Putin's armies for nearly three months, and in Congress we're united in authorizing the aid and lethal resources they need to continue defending their sovereignty and their homeland," said Rep. Courtney. "We've got a moral obligation and national security interest in protecting the existence of other democracies around the globe, we've committed to supporting our partners in Ukraine through this struggle, and I've met with young Ukrainians in eastern Connecticut who have fled the violence to the open arms of our communities—there is a campaign of terror being waged against their country, and I'm proud that Congress is continuing to come together from both sides of the aisle to help them."

The Additional Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act provides critical funding to help Ukraine defend itself and protect its democracy, hold Russian leaders accountable, address rapidly growing food insecurity globally because of the conflict in Ukraine, and provide critical refugee support services.
