Ranking Member Courtney Votes Against Trump’s War in Iran
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, released the following statement after voting to pass H.Con.Res. 38, a war powers resolution to reassert Congress’ authority and end President Trump’s war in Iran. The resolution failed to pass by a vote of 212-219.
“The Trump Administration’s failure to answer basic questions about what imminent threat to the U.S. homeland justifies spending blood and treasure to go to war with Iran and the egregious failure to provide protection for the tens of thousands of servicemembers in the region, and, most importantly, to describe a coherent plan for success scream out for Congress to reassert its constitutional authority,” Courtney said. “A war powers resolution is the best opportunity for Congress to restore constitutional checks to prevent another ‘endless war.’ I will continue working to uphold Congress’ constitutional authority over President Trump’s war of choice in Iran.”
