Ranking Member Courtney Statement on President Trump’s Military Action in Iran
NORWICH, CT – Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, released the following statement in response to President Trump’s military strikes in Iran.
“Four-star Army General David Petraeus' famous 2003 maxim about the Iraq War, ‘tell me how this ends’, should be at the forefront in the mind of every American, particularly President Trump, who hit Iran with military force without a declaration of war which the Constitution clearly requires. As our nation learned the hard way in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is easier to start a war in the Middle East, than to end one. As a member of the Armed Services Committee, I will be pushing to assert Congressional authority and oversight, particularly focused on force protection of U.S. servicemembers in the region, who are exposed to the highest risk of harm.”
