Ranking Member Courtney Statement on President Trump’s Firing of Admiral Franchetti
“Firing top military officers at the start of a new administration is not normal order.”
NORWICH, CT – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, issued the following statement after President Trump fired top military leaders, including Admiral Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations.
“Firing top military officers at the start of a new administration is not normal order. This is part of President Trump’s plans to install loyalists. While President Trump plays politics with our military, Russia and China are working hard to degrade Americans’ freedom.
“As Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, I have worked closely with Admiral Franchetti and have seen first-hand her exceptional leadership. During her tenure, the Navy exceeded its recruitment goals in 2024, made real-life progress executing the AUKUS security agreement, and improved Navy fleet readiness. I thank her for her service.
“Terminating Admiral Franchetti’s 40-year career of impeccable service, including command of two carrier strike groups, adds to the self-created chaos and confusion of our national security forces by the Trump administration at a perilous time in the maritime domain across the globe.”
