Ranking Member Courtney Applauds Senate Armed Services Committee for Adding Second Virginia Sub

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the House Seapower Subcommittee, issued the following statement after the Senate Armed Services Committee advanced its FY25 National Defense Authorization Act which includes incremental funding for a second Virginia Class submarine.

“I commend the Senate Armed Services Committee for following the calls of our Combatant Commanders and mirroring the House Armed Services Committee by including the second Virginia Class submarine in its FY25 national defense bill.  This milestone in a months-long process demonstrates a clear bipartisan position to uplift the nationwide submarine industrial base and grow our submarine fleet while ensuring we can meet our AUKUS obligations. I look forward to seeing this bill make its way through the Senate to deliver for our submarine force and applaud Senator Blumenthal for his hard work.”
