Norwich-New London Area Continues To Lead State With 1,200 New Jobs Last Month
NORWICH, CT --- Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) today hailed the release of the Connecticut Department of Labor’s latest jobs report which showed that the Norwich-New London region continued to lead the state in job growth with 1,200 new jobs during the last month. The report also makes it clear that Norwich-New London is the fastest-growing labor market in the state in terms of percentage of jobs added.
“This news is no surprise- it’s a confirmation that the hard work to bring jobs to the region is paying off. It validates the impact of an increased workload at Electric Boat, which in turn creates jobs at the hundreds of Connecticut-based parts suppliers on the EB supply chain. Thankfully, we’ve partnered with local community colleges, the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board, and the US Department of Labor to create a strong job training program to ensure these local jobs are being filled by local residents. Our community is on the right track.”
Electric Boat is expected to make 14,000 new hires over the next 15 years as submarine production continues to increase. The Eastern Connecticut Manufacturing Pipeline has received 4,000 applicants in six months and has placed 94% of graduates with employment at Electric Boat or other local manufacturing companies.
