Danielson Airport to Receive More Than $530,000 in American Rescue Plan Funding, Courtney Announces

July 2, 2021

NORWICH, CT—Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) today announced a federal Airport Rescue Grant award of $536,561 to the Danielson Airport in Killingly, CT. The federal grant was authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act, which Rep. Courtney voted to pass on March 10th, and was awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration. The new federal relief funding will enable Danielson Airport to rehabilitate and maintain the structural integrity of the existing general aviation apron, or tarmac.

"The Danielson Airport is a major economic driver for the Town of Killingly, the Quiet Corner and our entire region, and this American Rescue Plan relief funding is going to help it stay that way," said Rep. Courtney. "There was a lot of talk a few months back about where American Rescue Plan funding was going—a lot of that talk has faded lately as folks keep seeing relief being delivered in a variety of ways directly to our local communities. American Rescue Plan funding is helping our schools stay open, it's supporting our local police stations and firehouses, and now it's helping local airports like Danielson get the funding they need to make repairs and keep commerce moving despite the budget issues brought on by COVID-19. The Danielson Airport is responsible for over $9.5 million in annual economic output, and this federal funding will help make sure they don't miss a beat—it's another example of why I voted to pass the American Rescue Plan."

The Danielson Airport will receive a federal Airport Rescue Grant award of $536,561. The new funding will enable the Killingly, CT airport to rehabilitate 89,000 square yards of the existing general aviation apron in order to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement. The Airport Rescue Grant program was created by American Rescue Plan Act specifically to provide economic assistance to eligible U.S. airports to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and its various impacts, and to help support the recovery of the national airport system.
