Courtney Welcomes Undersea Warfighting Development Center to Submarine Base New London

September 21, 2015

New London, CT--Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) released the following statement after participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the U.S. Navy Undersea Warfighting Development Center recently established at Submarine Base New London:

"Today's ribbon cutting of the new Undersea Warfighting Development Center is the start of a new era for Groton's 100-year-old submarine base. Under the leadership of Admiral Jeffrey Trussler, Groton will play a critical role leading the entire U.S. Navy's efforts to develop and implement tactics and training that will maintain our nation's undersea dominance. At a time of increased challenges to freedom of navigation in Asia Pacific, the North Atlantic, and the Middle East, this mission is of the highest importance to our nation's defense. Its location in Groton is the logical extension of investments that the Congress, the Navy and the state of Connecticut have made in Groton over the last ten years," Courtney said.

The mission of the center includes training and development in advanced Tactics, Techniques and Procedures, operational expertise to support Strike Group Commanders, Numbered Fleet Commanders, Navy Component Commanders and Combatant Commanders, and providing subject matter expertise in anti-submarine warfare to the fleet.
