Courtney Welcomes Inclusion Of Needed Funding For Columbia-Class Submarine Program In Year-End CR

December 7, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), ranking member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, highlighted the inclusion of an anomaly providing a critical funding boost for the Columbia-class submarine program in the Continuing Resolution (CR).

“This is great news for eastern Connecticut and great news for the U.S. Navy,” said Courtney. “The Columbia-class program would face critical delays and ballooning costs without this needed adjustment to the CR. I was encouraged by the bipartisan cooperation that ensured the inclusion of this provision, and will continue to do all I can to support the design and construction of these submarines that are vital to the United States’ strategic deterrence capabilities.”

On November 17, Courtney led a bipartisan group of 33 members in sending a letter to the chairs and ranking members of the full House Appropriations Committee and Defense Subcommittee to ask for the funding levels in the CR include an anomaly for the Columbia-class program.
