Courtney statement on positive July jobs report
August 5, 2011
WASHINGTON, DC– Congressman Joe Courtney today released the following statement after the Department of Labor cited positive private-sector job growth in July. The new report says the economy added 154,000 new private-sector jobs, reducing the overall unemployment rate to 9.1 percent. Additionally, the report revised jobs numbers from May and June to reflect an additional 56,000 new jobs.
"Today's report is encouraging, reflecting a continuation of our recovery. It still confirms, however, a lot of work ahead. I will continue to work with farmers and small businesses like Dev's in New London and Tees Plus in Groton, as well as large employers like Comcast and Electric Boat to pursue every opportunity for job growth in eastern Connecticut."
