Courtney statement on Mitt Romney’s disastrous international debut

August 1, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) today released the following statement after Mitt Romney completed a disastrous international trip to Britain, Israel and Poland:

"Mitt Romney's unsteady debut on the international stage should be disconcerting to Americans of all political stripes. From jeopardizing the Special Relationship with Britain by insulting the Olympic hosts, to blurting out classified briefings, to throwing culture war sparks on a combustible Middle East Peace Process, Romney's trip raised serious questions about his capacity to serve as Commander in Chief. If Romney stumbled so badly dealing with our close allies, how could he be expected to negotiate with our adversaries? After this unsettling trip, the contrast with President Obama's firm leadership to eliminate Osama bin Laden and decimate al Qaeda could not be starker.

"Americans understand that we need the steady hand of Barack Obama to continue as Commander in Chief, not a bewildered bull in a china shop."
