Courtney Statement on House Republican Continuing Resolution

September 20, 2013

WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) released the following statement after voting against a House Republican version of a Continuing Resolution that would defund the Affordable Care Act and maintain sequestration cuts:

“I am disappointed that House Republicans again refused to take a bipartisan approach to fund our government. By using the threat of a shutdown to advance their ideological agenda, House Republicans have once again set our nation on the path towards avoidable partisan gridlock and confrontation. I hope the Senate will act swiftly to pass a bipartisan solution that will fund the government and move our nation away from this self-inflicted crisis. Once the Senate acts, Speaker Boehner should allow a vote on a clean funding bill that can gain bipartisan support to avoid a shutdown while Congress continues to work towards a long overdue compromise needed to complete the budget and end sequestration.”
