Courtney Statement on EB Hiring Announcement
January 15, 2015
Groton, CT—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) released the following statement after Electric Boat President Jeff Geiger presented a strong and positive outlook for the yard at its annual legislative breakfast, including plans that EB expects to hire approximately 600 workers at their Groton shipyard in 2015.
“EB’s strong hiring outlook will provide a powerful boost to our eastern Connecticut economy, and I am proud to play a direct role on the House Seapower Subcommittee in ensuring continued support for the submarine construction, design and support programs that are contributing to EB’s stability and growth. Thanks to the excellent work the men and women of EB have done to deliver the Virginia Class attack submarines ahead of schedule and under budget, recent military funding legislation has reflected the confidence policymakers have in their ability to take on additional construction, design and repair work in coming years.
“Today’s announcement is great news for our region, and I will continue to work closely with the Navy and EB leadership to build on this growth.”
