Courtney Statement on Confirmation of Marcia Fudge to serve as U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

March 10, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC– Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), a senior member of the House Education and Labor Committee, made the following statement today after former Congresswoman Marcia Fudge was confirmed by the Senate to serve as the 18th U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Joe Biden. Secretary Fudge is a former member of the House Education and Labor Committee, where she worked alongside Rep. Courtney.

"Congratulations to Secretary-designate Marcia Fudge on her confirmation, and to President Biden for his outstanding selection for the new leader of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development," said Rep. Courtney. "Congresswoman Fudge and I sat together at the dais at the House Education and Labor Committee for many years—I had a front row seat to see Marcia in action. As HUD Secretary, I know she'll continue to her smart, passionate advocacy for fairness for the American people. Marcia knows the real transformational impact that HUD programs can have on sustainable growth in towns like ours across eastern Connecticut, and as the first black woman to lead the Department she will make sure that equity and justice will prevail on her watch. I look forward to continuing to work with Secretary Fudge to keep bringing new opportunities to our region."
