Courtney Statement on Appointment of Greg Moriarty as Australian Ambassador to the U.S.
NORWICH, CT – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee and Co-Chair of the bipartisan Friends of Australia Caucus, released the following statement on the appointment of Australian Secretary of Defence Greg Moriarty to serve as Australian ambassador to the United States following the departure of Ambassador Kevin Rudd on March 31, 2026.
“Greg Moriarity’s selection to succeed Kevin Rudd as Ambassador to the U.S. from Australia is great news for both nations,” Courtney said. “His deep knowledge of and connections in Washington and across the country ensures that there will be a zero learning curve for the duties and mission of this critical position. His professionalism and nonpartisan interaction with the Pentagon and Capitol Hill are highly respected and appreciated. There is still much work to be done to strengthen the alliance, and he is well positioned succeed on that mission.”
On January 14th, Congressman Courtney met with Secretary Moriarty at the Congressman's Washington, DC office to discuss progress on the AUKUS security agreement.
