Courtney: State-UTC Agreement a "Significant Victory for Connecticut's Economy"

February 26, 2014

WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) released the following statement after Governor Malloy and UTC CEO Louis Chênevert announced an agreement in which UTC will invest up to $500 million over 5 years in Connecticut to upgrade and expand its aerospace research, development and manufacturing facilities. In addition, UTC has committed to retaining its Pratt & Whitney division headquarters in Connecticut for 15 years and its Sikorsky headquarters in Connecticut for at least 5 years.

“This agreement is a significant victory for Connecticut’s economy and our future, and I applaud Governor Malloy and the leadership of UTC for making it happen. Our state has long been a leader in defense and aerospace manufacturing, and this agreement will provide critical support to ensure that we can retain and bolster our edge in the years to come. As important, this package will also provide greater certainty and support to the thousands of small and mid-sized manufacturers that support UTC with cutting-edge innovation and good-paying jobs.

“UTC’s commitment to our state is a direct result of years of collaboration among company leaders, our state officials and the congressional delegation to ensure that Connecticut’s workforce continues to play a critical role in supporting America’s security priorities, and I am excited for what this means for the future of our state.”
