Courtney To Serve On Conference Committee Which Will Negotiate The Defense BIll

July 8, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), ranking member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, announced today that he has been selected as the only House member from Connecticut to serve on the conference committee which will be tasked with negotiating the final version the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act.

"I am proud to once again serve as a member of the conference committee tasked with finalizing the annual defense authorization bill,” Courtney said. “In this capacity, I will continue to build on the strong support I secured for Connecticut’s defense priorities in the House-passed bill -- including full support for robust submarine production, restoration of critical gaps in aircraft production levels, and further modernization of the C-130 aircraft assigned to the 'Flying Yankees' of Connecticut’s Air National Guard. There are many challenging issues on the agenda for these negotiations, but I remain confident that we will continue to find a bipartisan approach to ensuring that our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines have the support they deserve.”

As a leader on the House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Courtney worked to secure strong support for a variety of Connecticut priorities in the House-passed defense bill. You can read more about the Congressman’s work here.
