Courtney Presents Export Award to Suffield's MetFin
Norwich—On Tuesday, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) joined Anne Evans, District Director of the U.S. Department of Commerce, to present an Export Award to MetFin, a Suffield, Connecticut, company that manufactures metal finishing systems. After seeking assistance from the Middletown District office of the Department of Commerce, MetFin was able to expand their export business to Canada, Spain, and Mexico.
“Creating good manufacturing jobs in eastern Connecticut depends on increasing exports to our trade partners,” Courtney said. “MetFin has taken advantage of the resources the U.S. Department of Commerce offers to local businesses to help them navigate international markets and grow their sales. As more companies utilize these resources to boost their business, they are hiring talented Connecticut workers to keep up with demand. Growing our state’s exports has a direct benefit on our economy, and I congratulate the folks here at MetFin on their success.”
“Metfin is a perfect example of a small company that has tripled its size by expanding their markets internationally and has become a global player in their industry,” Director Evans said.
“Advancements in technology, including online advertising, offer today’s small businesses unprecedented access to the global economy. To help us navigate the waters of international markets, the Department of Commerce has assisted us in identifying potential customers and connected us with resources, insight, and guidance to successfully expand our international business,” said Rick Rush, President of MetFin.
Director Evans has counseled MetFin for many years on markets, standards and financing. Over the past year the company has experienced enormous export growth. On January 11, 2013 Director Evans and Congressman Courtney visited Metfin and discussed with them an ongoing negotiation for sales in Canada, Spain and Mexico, which were completed in March.
