Courtney, Lieberman, Blumenthal announce $21.1 million contract for Electric Boat
WASHINGTON, DC –Senators Joe Lieberman and Richard Blumenthal and Congressman Joe Courtney today announced that Groton-based Electric Boat (EB) has secured a $21.1 million contract from the U.S. Navy to perform reactor-plant planning yard services for nuclear submarines. If all options are exercised and funded, the contract's total value could reach $121.2 million through 2016.
"The awarding of this contract to Electric Boat is a testament to the hard work and skill of its impressive workforce," Lieberman said. "The men and women of EB continue to make Connecticut proud by building and servicing world class ships that lead in the defense of our nation."
"This contract goes to the core of supporting crucial engineering and design jobs in our state," said Senator Blumenthal. "The Navy's announcement is another powerful vote of confidence in Connecticut's strong competence in competing and producing at the forefront of defense manufacturing."
"The talented men and women of Electric Boat have proved time and again that they can do the work asked of them on time and without costly overruns," said Congressman Courtney. "They have earned the confidence of the U.S. Navy and the highest ranks of the Pentagon who call our submarine fleet ‘indispensable.' This latest contract is very good news for our region, its economy and the men and women of Electric Boat."
This work will engage Electric Boat's engineering and design organization, which is supported by more than 3,000 employees.
